February’s Docent field trip is to the Channel Islands Maritime Museum in Oxnard, one of the best private collections of maritime fine art and ship models on the West coast. Lunch afterwards. The museum needs an approximate number of participants in order to schedule docents to lead the tour. If you did not sign-up at the January meeting and plan to attend, contact Arden Holst (818-889-5873). Cost per person is $5 for seniors and $7 for adults.
Check out their website at www.cimmvc.org for more information.
The Channel Islands Maritime Museum is proud to present the exhibition “The Mayflower: The Story of a Voyage Across Treacherous Waters.”
“2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower landing at Plymouth Rock. The voyage of the Mayflower and the founding of Plymouth Colony is one of the seminal events in world history. However, the poorly equipped group of English Puritans who ventured across the Atlantic in the early autumn of 1620 had no sense they would pass into legend. They had eighty casks of butter and two dogs but no cattle for milk, meat, or plowing. They were ill-prepared for the brutal journey and the new land that few of them could comprehend. The Mayflower story did not end with these Pilgrims’ arrival on the coast of New England or their first uncertain years as settlers.”
